Norwood wins second state championship in program history, first since 1983. KUSA

LOVELAND – Norwood won the Class 1A girls state title for the second time in school history with a 38-34 win Saturday over top-seeded Caliche at the Budweiser Events Center.

The second-seeded Mavericks (25-1) last won the title in 1983 and were also runner-up in 2012.

Caliche kept it close the whole game, and Jessica Taylor cut the Norwood lead to 31-30 with a layup. But Norwood made their free throws late and were led by Jordon Williams' 12 points and junior Lucia Viukova, a foreign exchange student from Slovakia, added 11 points.

The Buffaloes (24-2) were going for their fourth state title and first since 1986, when they beat Norwood in the title game.
