Former Denver Nuggets guard and NBA journeyman Earl Boykins terrorized NBA guards for 14 seasons with his speed, quickness, and ability to score off the bench. Despite being just 5-feet 5-inches tall, Boykins gave hope to every short kid dreaming of an NBA career.

This year, Boykins will be giving that same hope to kids at Douglas County High School as their new head coach. Athletic director Jeff Gardella confirmed the hire to 9News Sports Reporter Aaron Matas on Friday, saying he is "looking for a spark" from the Huskies' new coach. Gardella also says he hopes Boykins' toughness and attitude rubs-off on this Huskies' squad after they went 3-20 last season.

While having someone with NBA experience might seem like an advantage, the Huskies' athletic director said it wasn't a deciding factor.

Boykins played for ten teams during his NBA career. He spent four seasons in Denver, averaging 12.6 points, 4.05 assists, while playing 26 minutes per-game. He was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks from Denver in the 2006-07 season.
