The Colorado Rockies will face the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight in the second game of the Rockies' first home stand of 2014. A few quick preview notes:
"Chuck Nasty" returns to CF: One day after going 6-for-6 at the plate (3 doubles, a single, and a home run) Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon will get the start in center field at Coors Field. It's the first time this season that Colorado has started the same player in center field on consecutive days. Blackmon has also been the starting center fielder in each of the Rockies' two wins in 2014.
Cuddyer to be honored: Prior to tonight's game, the Rockies and Major League Baseball will present outfielder Michael Cuddyer with his 2013 N.L Batting Championship plaque and his Silver Slugger award. It is the fifth time a Rockies' player has taken home both honors in the same season: Matt Holliday, Carlos Gonzalez, Todd Helton, and Larry Walker are the other four. So far, Cuddyer has picked up where he left-off in 2013, hitting .455 through five games this season.
Pitching Problems: The Rockies and Diamondbacks will both send struggling starting pitchers to the mound this evening. Rockies' starter Jorge De La Rosa (0-1, 10.38) and Brandon McCarthy (0-0, 6.75) are both winless and sport ERAs over 6.00 through their first starts. De La Rosa is coming off one of his best seasons in 2013, where he tied a career high in wins (16) and posted a career low in xFIP (3.09).
First pitch is scheduled for 6:10pm MT. Check back with 9news.com following the game for the latest updates and photos.
*xFIP = a pitcher's ERA over a given time period, assuming that performance on balls in play were league average.
