KUSA- The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame celebrated their 50th year of honoring the best of the best from the Centennial state in grand fashion. In addition to inducting six new members into the Hall of Fame, Peyton Manning was awarded the 2013 Professional Athlete of the year for the second year in a row.
"At this banquet last year I was thoroughly impressed with the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. Tom (Lawrence/President of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame), you and your staff do a great job and it's really been an honor to be part of this banquet for the past two year," Manning said to the nearly 900 in attendance.
It was a special night for Manning in two ways, he was able to see his good friend and former college teammate Todd Helton be inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame class of 2014.
"It's not the last Hall of Fame that Todd Helton will be inducted into I can assure you that. If there every was a Hall of Fame for friendship I can assure you he would be one of the first ballot inductees. Todd thank you for all of your help in my transition here to Denver," Manning continued.
Manning ended his speech by thanking the people of Denver. "I'm proud to be your quarterback," Manning said in closing to a standing ovation.
