KUSA - Have your friends been sporting a beard since the Avs went to the playoffs? There's actually a good cause behind it.
There's a beardathon going on right now throughout the NHL. Each team is doing it for a different charity. The Avalanche Beard-A-Thon supports Kroenke Sports Charities.
It focuses on helping families, children, veterans and the disabled. Avalanche fans are getting involved big time seeing how long and thick they can grow their facial hair. So far, Avs fans have raised $3,185.
Throughout the NHL, fans have raised more than $188,000 to support charities in their communities. Right now, Boston Bruins fans are in the lead with $64,888 in pledges.
You can sign up to make a pledge by clicking here: http://www.beardathon.com/avalanche/team.aspx.
There are 3,634 beard growers across the NHL to date. If you can't grow a beard, you can do what the 9NEWS Morning Show did and Build-A-Beard on this website: http://www.beardathon.com/.
