The Colorado Avalanche will start their 2014-15 season against the team that sent them to an early off-season just two months ago.
The Minnesota Wild will host the Avs in Colorado's NHL opener on Thursday, October 9th. The teams will meet again two days later, when Colorado opens the Pepsi Center for a new season on October 11th. Each of the NHL's twenty-nine teams will visit the Pepsi Center at least once next season. Here are some of the most notable games outside of the home opener:
-November 6th vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
-February 5th vs. Detroit Red Wings
-February 18th vs. Los Angeles Kings
-April 11th vs. Chicago Blackhawks
The Avalanche will also play in twelve back-to-back clashes during next season, up from only ten back-to-backs in 2013-14.
Aside from the regularly scheduled teams and cities, the Avalanche will be making a trip to Quebec City in the preseason to face the Montreal Canadiens in an exhibition game on September 26th. The game will definitely attract the attention of many hockey purists due to the history between the two cities. Quebec's former NHL franchise, the Quebec Nordiques, moved from Quebec City in 1995 to Colorado where the team was eventually renamed as "the Avalanche." The Canadian city hasn't played host to an NHL franchise since that time.
