LOS ANGELES — There are over 2 million apps available in the Apple and Google app stores, but 10 get used more often than any others.

A new study from ComScore ranks them, and points out that while the favorites are heavily used, most folks rarely bother to add new apps to their phones, even though they're free.

We spend more time — 52% — with apps than we do with websites, according to the ComScore study, up from 40% in 2013.

The top:

1. If you find yourself constantly making new status updates and posting vacation photos for your friends, you're not alone. Facebook is by far the most used app, used by 115 million folks monthly.

2. In second place, the Google owned YouTube app brings the latest music videos and viral talkers direct to your phone, with 83.4 million users.

3. Google, as a matter of fact, dominates the top 10 chart with 5 of the top 10. Beyond YouTube, in third place is the Google Play app — the vehicle for Android phone owners to get new apps, with 72 million users monthly. Android has nearly 85% market share of phones worldwide.

4. The Google search app — so prominent on Android phones, with 70 million users.

5. The personalized online radio service, Pandora, with 69 million listeners, making it easily the world's largest radio station.

6. Back to Google and the Maps app. Can you imagine getting around without it? Some 64.5 million monthly users navigate their way around town with Google Maps.

7. Many phones have built-in e-mail tabs, but many folks prefer the Gmail app over native mail apps on phones, because it's easier to insert attachments and files from Google Drive directly. Some 60 million folks use the Gmail app monthly.

8. The world's most popular photo sharing app, Instagram, where some 60 million pictures are uploaded every day. Instagram reaches 46.6 million users monthly.

10. (Tie) Apple Maps. Remember when Apple ditched Google Maps on the iPhone two years ago, and critics howled that Apple's Maps were inferior and inaccurate? They've gotten better. And, perhaps helped by its default position on the main page, Apple Maps is used by 42 million users monthly.

10. (Tie) Where where do you go to check your stock quotes? If you're like most folks, it's the Yahoo Finance app, which just got a spiffy facelift this summer, and is now easier to navigate. Yahoo Finance also is used by 42 million users monthly.

And that's the top 10. What's your favorite new, under-the-radar app? Let's chat about it on Twitter, where I'm @jeffersongraham.
