KUSA - Extensive road work this weekend will cause a big headache for some drivers. But the Colorado Department of Transportation is trying to get multiple projects done quickly so they don't cause a headache for long.

Eastbound and westbound traffic on I-70 from Frisco to C-470 will have heavy traffic. Westbound heavy traffic will occur from Floyd Hill to Idaho Springs throughout Friday, July 25, with the longest delays expected between 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26, the longest delays will be from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Heavy eastbound traffic between Summit County and C-470 is likely to occur throughout most of July 27, with the longest delays expected between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The left lane on westbound I-70 near Glenwood Canyon will be closed for paving operations. The speed will be reduced to 25 mph through the work zone during working hours and 35 mph during non-working-hours.
Planned blasting operations are scheduled for Saturday, July 26 at 6 a.m. on westbound and eastbound I-70 at the Twin Tunnels. Drivers should expect 30-minute delays during the blasting operations.
About four miles east of Craig (mile-marker 101) eastbound and westbound US 40 will be partially closed due to road work. Speed limits will be reduced to 25 mph.
CDOT has to build the road back up after the floods. The biggest traffic delay will be on US 36 between mile-marker 18 and 19 to Lyons on July 29. The closure starts at 6 a.m. that day. Crews will reopen it for Aug. 2 and 3, close it again on Aug. 4 through 8. But all the work will finish on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 6 a.m. DETOUR: Apple Valley Road, but that's just for locals. You need an access card.
OTHER UPCOMING CLOSURES
Northbound Interstate 25 between Santa Fe Drive and US 6 will be closed starting on Aug. 8 at 10 p.m. until Saturday, Aug. 9 at 8 a.m. At 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, it will close again until 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11.
