KUSA - Scattered showers and thunderstorms are firing up in the mountains and will continue to move to the west through the evening hours.

In Brighton, the storm's strong winds left behind a lot of damage on Malcom Parson's property.

He says he and his wife were about to make dinner when the storm rolled in.

They took shelter in the basement as the winds brought down trees and tore apart their chicken coop and barn.

Parsons says about half of his barn was torn off and landed on the other side of the house. He also says the strong winds moved his 2,000 pound hunting shed about 20 feet.

The thunderstorms will diminish after sunset and skies will turn partly cloudy through Saturday morning. Stormy skies and 80-degree temperatures hang on for the weekend and into next week.

There are some delays at Denver International Airport because of the storm, but officials say they don't have exact numbers. Passengers are encouraged to check their airline.
