About 35 miles north of Fort Collins and pass over the Wyoming State line, you'll notice a ranch on the right side of I-25. It's called the 'Terry Bison Ranch'.

The ranch consists of 28,000 acres of land, 5,000 bison, a couple dozen horses and 7 or 8 camels.

"They're very gentle, but they [camels] can become very irritated and mean at times," said Wes Ammons, General Manager of Terry Bison Ranch.

Ammons says the ranch adopted a few camels about 18 years ago. It might seem odd for camels to live in Wyoming, but Ammons says they actually enjoy it.

"During the sunlight or early hours they like to be outdoors. If it gets below 30 we keep them in doors so they don't get frostbite on their feet," he explained.

Camels used to live in Wyoming during prehistoric times. They haven't been around in more than 10,000 years.

"They adapted pretty well when we brought them here," Ammons said.

Visitors to the ranch can get up close with the camels and bison.

Terry Bison Ranch is open nearly every day of the year.
