FORT COLLINS - A teenager and his mother are dead after a crash in Fort Collins.
Police say 17-year-old Joshua Cortez and his passenger, 47-year-old Kelly Cortez, were heading south on Giddings Road in a Honda sedan at around 7:20 p.m. Thursday when their car was broadsided by a Corvette that was heading east on Richards Lake Road.
Both cars ended up in a field southeast of the intersection, and the front passengers of both cars were ejected.
The boy and his mother were pronounced dead at the scene. The 18-year-old driver of the Corvette and his 19-year-old passenger were taken to local hospitals.
The intersection was closed for about eight hours for the investigation. Police are trying to determine whether speed was a factor in the wreck. They do not believe alcohol was involved.
