After Google's fail, Apple mulls digital glasses

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Can Apple succeed with digital glasses after Google failed so spectacularly?

The Cupertino-based iPhone maker is considering an expansion into digital glasses, according to Bloomberg sources. The device would connect wirelessly to the iPhone and display images within the viewer’s field of vision and may even employ augmented reality (AR).

Apple is already talking to suppliers about the glasses, per the Bloomberg sources close to the situation. The company has ordered near-eye displays from one supplier for testing, but it has yet to order enough components for mass-production.

If Apple moves forward with the wearable, it would be available in 2018 at the earliest. However, the company frequently embarks on projects that never yield a marketable products. It is unknown how far this one will go forward.
