Layer3 TV turns on its 'new cable' service in its first market

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Layer3 TV, the secretive downtown Denver video technology company, has launched video service in its first major market, Chicago, and unveiled its TV channel lineup ahead of expansion into other big cities.

The channel packaged its offers, which makes Layer3 TV look a lot like the kind of cable TV it’s competing against, but it’s using technology try to be more than that for consumers.

Layer3 has agreements to sell the top channel lineups from the major cable and satellite TV programmers: Disney, NBCUniversal, Viacom, Fox, Discovery, Scripps Networks, HBO, Showtime and others. Layer3 TV more aggressively than cable TV blends in “over-the-top” video offerings such as Netflix, Amazon and will tie in social media, personal digital media and other content.

“We’re trying to harness the power of the internet to make it simple for people,” said David Fellows, co-founder and CTO of Layer3. “We want to unify everything.”
