Witnesses: Motorcyclist was speeding right before fatal wreck

WHEAT RIDGE, CO. - A motorcyclist was "driving recklessly" before a crash that took his life on Wednesday, witnesses told police.

Zachary Theriault, 25, was pronounced dead at the intersection of Wadsworth Blvd. and 48th Ave. in Wheat Ridge.

Police say around 7:30 p.m., Theriault was headed north on Wadsworth when he struck a pickup truck hauling a box trailer that was turning left onto 48th Ave.

Theriault was not wearing a helmet, and witnesses said he was speeding right before the wreck.

The driver of the pickup was not injured. Police say there were no indications of their drug or alcohol use.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation, and Theriault's toxicology results are pending.

Both directions of Wadsworth Blvd. were closed between 44th Ave. and I-70 for hours on Wednesday night.
