Off-duty Denver officer hurt in crash

AURORA - An off-duty Denver police officer was injured in a crash after another vehicle rear ended her car, according to Aurora Police.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. on the eastbound Interstate 70 ramp onto Pena Boulevard. Denver Police was the first to arrive to the scene.

According to an Aurora Police sergeant, the off-duty officer was guarding a construction area. Her car was protected in a cone area when she was hit.

Aurora Police are investigating the woman who hit the officer to see if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

That woman, a man who was a passenger in the woman's car, and the officer were all taken to the hospital. The officer had minor injuries but is expected to be okay. The suspected drunk driver and passenger were taken only as a precaution.

Pena Boulevard was shutdown while the investigation was ongoing.
