Denver Post reporter killed in crash

DENVER - A pedestrian died Wednesday night after they were hit by a car near the Denver Country Club, Denver Police confirm.

The apparent accident happened near 1st Avenue and Downing Street.

The car involved in the crash was found seven blocks away from the crash -- at 1st and Race Street. The window was completely smashed in and the airbag had been deployed. 

Jesus Carreno, 23, was arrested on probable cause of vehicular homicide. Police say his eyes were bloodshot and his breath smelled of alcohol. 
The results of his blood tests are pending. 

The victim, Colleen O'Connor, was a reporter for the Denver Post. The newspaper said O'Connor has worked there since 2004. 

Police have not released additional information about the circumstances of the crash, but have specified O'Connor was not on a bike.
