I-70 at 6th Ave. reopens in Golden after extensive shut down

The driver of the asphalt truck says he's thankful to be alive.

KUSA - An overturned dump truck that's leaking fuel closed a stretch of both Interstate 70 and 6th Avenue in Golden for several hours on Sunday.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the westbound lanes of I-70 were blocked at 6th Avenue because of the wreck that also damaged part of the guardrail.

CDOT engineers evaluated the bridge structure, put up temporary barriers and said they'll come back to completely fix it in a week.

Colorado State Patrol says around 1 p.m., a dump truck that was hauling asphalt rolled over into the emergency turn around and collided with a pickup.

The driver of the truck and pickup were both sent to a local hospital with minor injuries.
