AURORA - If you have a flight in or out of Denver International Airport, be aware of a major traffic shift in place on Pena Boulevard.
The airport is reconstructing a highly traveled section of Pena Boulevard between Second Creek (just west of Tower Road) and E-470 which was experiencing high levels of deterioration.
Workers have completed phase one of the reconstruction of the inbound lanes. Now, phase two will consist of the reconstruction of the outbound Pena Boulevard lanes.
In order to reconstruct the outbound lanes, workers moved outbound Pena Boulevard traffic onto the newly rebuilt inbound lanes. Inbound lanes will remain on the detour route.
The speed limit has also been reduced to 45 mph throughout the construction zone, so motorists need to notice the changes.
Crews closed one lane of outbound traffic during the traffic switch, which started at 4 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15.
The $9.6-million reconstruction project started in May 2014. It's scheduled to be done by mid-November 2014.
