Trail Ridge Road closes for season

KUSA - Now that it’s starting to look a little bit more like November, the things you’d normally expect to happen by now are finally starting to happen.

Among them? Trail Ridge Road closing.

The scenic byway through Rocky Mountain National Park officially closed for the season on Friday. Given the recent snow, it makes sense: it is the highest continuous paved road in America, and reaches an elevation of 12,183 feet.

It also has 11 miles above 11,500 feet, few guard rails and no shoulder.

The latest Trail Ridge Road has closed was on Dec. 2, 1933. The average winter closure? Oct. 23.

Expect it to open again sometime this spring.
