A fatal crash closed eastbound Interstate 70 near Silverthorne Thursday afternoon.
Colorado State Patrol says a Pontiac rolled over and landed on its roof, killing the driver. There’s no word yet on what caused the crash, but there were extremely wintry conditions in the mountains Thursday.
Westbound I-70 was also closed for a time at Vail Pass due to numerous accidents. That closure has since been lifted.
CDOT also tweeted about multiple spinouts near Silverthorne.
CDOT has enacted the traction law between C-470 to Vail. This means drivers must have chains, alternate traction devices, snow tires or four-wheel drive.
