KUSA - Sure, it might not be particularly fast, but traveling by train is something that’s hard to beat.

And by living in Colorado, you have the chance to take some of the best train journeys in the world, according to SmarterTravel.com, which ranked the top 10 train trips in the country.

Three of those were in Colorado, though Amtrak’s Coast Starlight route from Seattle to Portland to Los Angeles notched the top spot.

The first Colorado trip was Amtrak’s Zephyr, which came in at No. 3. The route goes from Chicago to Denver to Reno to Sacramento to Emeryville in 51 hours and 20 minutes.

“Rocky Mountain tunnels carry you across the Continental Divide, while aspens and evergreens dot the steep cliffs of Glenwood Canyon,” the description reads.

The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad came in at No. 6, with writers praising the thrill ride that comes with being just inches from the canyon’s rock walls and steep cliffs.

The third Colorado railroad mentioned was the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, which takes 6.5 hours to travel from Chama, N.M. to Osier, Colo. To Antonito, Colo. This is the longest and highest steam railroad in America – and described as an “authentic National Historic Landmark that moves.”
