Denver breaks 50-year-old heat record

KUSA - Denver, you did it. The temperatures hit 83 degrees at Denver International Airport Thursday afternoon, breaking a 50-year-old record.

The previous record was 80 degrees, set in 1966.

Byers, Boulder, Castle Rock, Kremmling, and Winter Park shattered previous heat records Thursday. Greeley, Julesburg and Limon tied their current record high temperature.

Temperatures will flirt near record again on Friday. The forecast high is 82 degrees in Denver; the current record is 80 degrees, set in 1994.

Daytime highs will cool off slightly this weekend into the 70s.
