Spring storm cancels school, state track meet

CHSAA officials hoped to at least complete this morning's session-- but the storm got here earlier than expected.

It’s May in Colorado – and that means snow is causing some trouble.

Though the mountain schools were initially on a two-hour delay, the Boulder Valley School District opted to CANCEL class for Nederland Middle/Senior High School, Nederland Elementary School, Jamestown Elementary and Gold Hill Elementary School.

Summit County School was also canceled for Thursday, as was Park County District Re: 2 in Fairplay.

Colorado State University announced it would cancel class at 12:30 p.m. due to the storm.

The Colorado State Track and Field Championships were postponed Thursday due to snow that blew onto the track at Jeffco Stadium.

This will push the meet into Sunday, CHSAA announced.

Because of the new schedule, some seniors will now have to miss graduation. CHSAA announced they will honor those graduating seniors during the meet. Those who want to participate in the 11:50 a.m. ceremony are encouraged to wear their caps and gowns.

More information on the meet will be posted here: http://bit.ly/2pOHkZZ

Another event in Jefferson County -- the Columbine High School graduation at Red Rocks -- was rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday due to the storm.

At Green Mountain High School, graduation was moved inside in the gym. Overflow seating with a livestream is slated for the auditorium.

Bear Creek High School graduation has been moved to Denver Coliseum at 7 p.m.

The Pleasant View Elementary School closing ceremony has been postponed until 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

And class at Marshdale Elementary School and Coal Creek K-8 was canceled due to a power outage that impacted power, phones and internet service.
