Jordan Chavez joined the 9NEWS family in March 2017 as a multi-skilled journalist.
He says it seems surreal to be working alongside journalists he’s admired for so long, but it’s an opportunity he’ll never take for granted.
Before making the move to Denver, Jordan worked as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter at KAMR, the NBC affiliate in Amarillo, Texas. While there, he covered everything from political stories to breaking news including a capital murder trial and an active shooter inside a Walmart – both which garnered national attention.
Jordan is naturally curious about the world around him. It’s a trait that ultimately led to his decision to become a journalist. He’s what you would describe as a “news nerd,” constantly checking his phone for updates about stories happening around his community and across the globe. He also embarrassingly admits his DVR is almost full of recordings of NBC Nightly News.
Jordan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media from Texas State University in 2014.
He was born in New Orleans but moved to Amarillo at a young age where he was raised. While he is a proud Texan, he’s excited to now call Colorado home. When he’s not updating you on the latest happenings across the state, he’s almost certainly exploring Colorado’s beautiful mountains, rivers or excellent breweries.
Jordan’s never met a stranger and is always looking to make new friends, so if you ever see him out and about, be sure to say hi. And if you have a story you feel needs to be told, reach out to him at firstname.lastname@example.org. He'd love to tell it!
