Two economic development thoroughbreds — Atlanta and Northern Virginia — are neck-and-neck in the Amazon HQ2 horserace, according to a survey by real estate marketplace Zillow Group Inc.
Among more than 100 economists and real estate experts who responded, 12 said Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) is most likely to choose Atlanta for its $5 billion second headquarters and another 12 picked Northern Virginia.
The quarterly survey, sponsored by Zillow and conducted by Pulsenomics LLC, asked the experts which city they think is most and least likely to be chosen as Amazon’s second headquarters.
Amazon kicked off an economic development arms race last fall when it announced plans for the 8 million square-foot HQ2. The project claims to create up to 50,000 jobs over the next two decades.
