A man was shot and killed by officers in Pueblo Tuesday night following a chase that stemmed from a restraining order violation.

When officers arrived, the man had already left the area on a bicycle. Police later caught up with him in the area of 9th Street and Lola Avenue, but say he refused to comply with commands and reached for his waistband.

That’s when officers used a Taser on the man. Police say he resisted and started to run away on foot.

After a short chase through the neighborhood, the man was located in the backyard of a home in the 900 block of the 8th Street.

When approached, the man showed a handgun –resulting in two officers firing their handguns at him.

The man was struck and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

Once next of kin is notified, the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will release the deceased man’s name.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
