In a letter sent home to parents, Green Mountain High School principal Colleen Owens said that a recent graduate had been murdered by a minor.
9Wants to Know confirmed that former student was Makayla Grote, who police say was stabbed to death by a 15-year-old Saturday in Longmont.
She was found in the 2400 block of Airport Road around 6 p.m. on Saturday and then rushed to a hospital where she later died.
At 1 a.m., Longmont Police say they took the 15-year-old into custody. The teen is facing first-degree murder charges.
Owens says Grote graduated from the school in 2016.
The 15-year-old was also a former student at Green Mountain, according to the principal.
Owens says the school will have counseling staff for any student would like to talk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday.
She also invites staff, students and families to gather and receive and show support to one another.
"Our hearts go out to all those struggling through this sad incident, especially the Grote family," Owens writes.
Support will also be made available after the Thanksgiving break.
Owens closes her letter by stating they do not have any information on a memorial service for Grote, but that as soon as they do they'll pass it along.
