Senior Tim DeBord scored a hat trick--all in the second period--to help Valor pull away and put an end to what's been an incredible run over the past five years for the Coyotes. This marks the first year since 2012 that Monarch will not be playing in the state championship.

DeBord's performance is one that will be remembered for a long time at a school with seemingly infinite impressive athletic achievements.

His first goal was the first on the board all game, as there had been nearly 20 minutes of scoreless hockey to start the game. The senior tacked on one more around the five minute mark of the second period, and saved his best strike of the night for last.

With just 1:06 remaining before the second intermission, DeBord shot a rocket of a wrist shot past Monarch goalie Reese Kelly--creating a brief stoppage of play as droves of fans in the Valor student section threw hats onto the ice.

In the final minutes of the third, Colton Carlson added an empty-netter to make it 4-0. That would be the final.

The Coyote's loss means that we won't see a Monarch-Regis state title game for the third straight year.

Instead, it will be Valor Christian facing off with the top seeded Raiders Tuesday night at the Pepsi Center. You can catch all the highlights after the game on 9NEWS.com and our 9NEWS Sports Facebook page.
