DU ready for life without Terry

The DU junior is headed to play for Team USA at the Winter Games while his teammates back in DU will try to stay hot without him

For the next three weekends, the Pioneers won't be bumping in to Troy Terry on the ice.

"Hold down the fort," Terry said. "They'll be fine. My absence kind of presents some opportunities for other guys and I'm excited to see some other guys step up."

Terry practiced on Tuesday with the Pios, and is now on his way to PyeongChang. DU will play two series without Troy.

"I'm definitely going to miss him. We have so many great players that can step up in that role," junior Dylan Gambrell said.

"It's nice for some people to increase their minutes and play some go to minutes when stuff is on the line, on special teams, up one goal, down by a goal, late in the game," head coach Jim Montgomery told 9NEWS.

DU appears to be clicking at the right time of year. They haven't lost in more than a month and will try to keep that streak alive against Colorado College and Saint Cloud State while Terry is at the Olympics.

"With Troy leaving right now, players have the confidence, to move up and they want those minutes," Montgomery said. "Maybe if this happened in November, there were players that weren't ready to handle this kind of challenge."

Terry returns for the final week of the regular season, then he and the pioneers will try and defend their 2017 National Championship.
