Home to 67 microbreweries, some of the biggest brewing names in the business and the epic, annual Great American Beer Festival, and you might think there's no city for beer quite like the Mile High City.

Unless the city is Asheville, North Carolina, that is. Or Portland, Maine. Or even Pittsburgh.

Those, along with three other cities, beat out Denver as the "best beer cities" in an annual report put together by SmartAsset, a New York-based financial services and analytics website. Last year, Denver was fifth.

So what gives?
