Here's a roundup of What's Brewing in and around Denver this weekend.

And they’re off! It’s the Kentucky Derby this weekend, and that means hats – not only horses – will be on full display. To look your Derby best on Saturday, Colorado & Company enlisted the help of Mariel Boutique in Cherry Creek to help us take in the “Run for the Roses” in style.

"I think our expertise is in getting the right hat on you," said Denise Snyder, owner of Mariel Boutique. "We know which hat to put on the person that compliments their face, their hair. And of course, their outfit. We're really good at coordinating them with their dress."

But, if you can’t make it to Churchill Downs for the big day, don’t worry, there are plenty of Derby-themed events happening right here at home.

Denver Mini Derby

Grab your Mint Julep and check out the Denver Mini Derby at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. This “Derby with a twist” features miniature horses, live music, an open bar and a corgi race after the other “big race”. The event kicks off on Saturday at 1 pm. Find tickets at DenverMiniDerby.com.


Downtown Denver will also be buzzing with Derby fun. Take in the most exciting two minutes in sports at bars like the Celtic on Market, Curio Bar on Larimer St. and The British Bulldog on Stout St. while the Viewhouse holding a Derby Day Watch Party with a chance to win tickets to next year’s Kentucky Derby.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Saturday May5th is also Cinco de Mayo. Celebrate Mexican culture at Civic Center Park with a Cinco de Mayo Celebration complete with a parade, chihuahua races, a taco eating contest, a low rider car show and, of course, the amazing live music and dancing.

The parade kicks off at 11 am on West Colfax Ave. and Welton St., but you have all day to enjoy the fun as the festivities last until 8 pm. The event is free for all. and if you still have energy on Sunday, you can do it all over again, as the festival starts up at 10 am on May 6th as well!
