Father Woody Christmas Party celebrates 38 years of giving meals and gifts

"I was very excited to come today because I could be a part and not feel alone on Christmas."

Sunday marked 38 years of giving during the Father Woody Christmas Party.

It was started by Father C. B. Woodrich of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. The tradition includes free meals, gifts and time with Santa at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Denver.

"It's a beautiful expression of charity and help for those in need," said Father Christopher Uhl, Pastor of Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

He said 1,600 boxed lunches were prepared and 2,500 gifts were wrapped.

"I was very excited to come today because I could be a part and not feel alone on Christmas," Donald Weiss said. He's been homeless since October and attended the event.

The Father Woody Christmas Party included more than 200 volunteers and donations of new coats, hats, gloves and other personal items, including diapers for the little ones.
