These kids' lemonade stand is raising money for injured officer

Kids in the neighborhood where Officer Cory Sack was shot raised some money to help him recover.

“Lemonade!”

A group of kids screamed the word over and over again in the Cherry Hills Village Sunday evening.

“Donations go to Officer Cory.”

Cherry Hills Village Police Officer Cork Sack was shot in the left leg and right heel while responding to a 911 hang-up call late Aug. 20.

These kids are selling lemonade to raise money to help him and his family out while he recovers.

“The idea was born with my kids,” said Jessica Friedrichsen as she stood in front of her home surrounded by kids. “They got the neighbors, they all made signs, and they all worked together. For the kids, it gives them a sense of importance to help others.”

The kids run up and down the street holding signs to attract attention. They dole out cookies and lemonade for whatever donation people want to make.

They also hand out a get well card for people to sign.

“This hit really close to home,” Friedrichsen said, “and it’s really nice to see the community come together.”

At the end of the day, the kids dump the money out of their glass fish bowl and count it in the driveway.

“$762,” a couple of girls say in sync.

Not bad for a day’s work.
