Friday is Frida Kahlo's birthday and you can celebrate in Denver

A local museum in Denver is celebrating what would be Frida Kahlo's 111th birthday

Denver — She was an artist, a feminist, a woman in a male-dominated world who made a name for herself.

Frida Kahlo would've turned 111 years old on Friday.

Art experts praise Kahlo for being unapologetically herself and thus teaching many women at the time how to passionately pour their hearts into everything they did.

Kahlo is best known for her self-portraits. They are often viewed as showing pain and a deep understanding of self-identity. Many women all over the world say they feel a connection to her work.

Friday night, Museo de las Americas, a Latin American art museum in Denver, will transform their space to honor and celebrate the beloved Mexican artist.

“Life con Frida" will feature local artists including Adriana Rondon.

“Frida is an inspiration. She’s a light for me and other artists, women artists, Latin artists,” Rondon said. “I don’t know if she knew how inspiring she would be.”

As a part of Friday's event, Rondon is setting up an interactive photo booth to recreate several of Kahlo 's self-portraits. She says it's meant to embody what Kahlo was.
