MORRISON, Colo. — The Easter sunrise service at Red Rocks Amphitheatre is returning for a 72nd year.

Sponsored by the Colorado Council of Churches (CCC), this year’s service takes place Sunday, April 21 at 6 a.m.

Gates at Red Rocks open at 4:30 a.m., with music scheduled to start at 5:30 a.m. The service and parking are free of charge. Organizers encourage attendees to dress warmly and to monitor the weather before heading to the venue.

This year, Rev. Quirino Cornejo, a Latinx Ministries developer for the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will deliver the sermon. He's the Pastor of the Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey congregation in West Denver, and Vicar of Intercession Episcopal Church in Thornton, according to a press release from the CCC.

Musical guests include the Colorado-based Jubilate! Sacred Singers, Heatherlyn Music, and Father Michael Nicosia.

The first Easter sunrise service was held in 1947, just over five years after the amphitheatre was dedicated. In 2016, the service was canceled after nearly two feet of snow fell in the area days before Easter.

If you don’t want to make the trek to the amphitheatre, you can stream the service online by clicking or tapping this link.
