A-Basin seeing high demand for reservations as it plans to reopen May 27

"We will sell a very small number of lift tickets. Mostly this opening is for all of our pass holders," CEO Alan Henceroth said.

DILLON, Colo. — Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in a tweet on Sunday said it plans to reopen on Wednesday, May 27.

"It is official. We are going to re-open Wednesday, May 27," CEO Alan Henceroth said in a blog post. "As I mentioned a couple days ago, we will sell a very small number of lift tickets. Mostly this opening is for all of our pass holders. ... "

In a blog posting on Monday, Henceroth said they will not be selling any additional passes, including uphill passes, for the 2019-2020 season.

A-Basin will only take up to 600 skiers and riders reservations per day. Thirty reservations will be held for lift ticket sales. The other 570 spots will be for various passholders. Henceroth said, "one of our biggest objectives is to offer skiing and riding for folks that already have a pass valid at The Basin."

A-Basin said it is only taking online reservations. Reservations for a specific day will be available at 7 p.m. Mountain Time two nights before that specific day.

The ski area tweeted Monday night, shortly after May 27 reservations opened, asking people for patience because of the high demand for reservations. The tweet said the reservation system was down.

An executive order in March forced A-Basin and many of Colorado's ski areas to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Gov. Jared Polis in recent weeks has loosened some restrictions in the state put in place to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus.

  1. Reservations are required. Do not show up without a reservation.
  2. Physical distancing will be enforced and guests must wear face coverings in designated areas.
  3. Tailgating and other gatherings will not be allowed.
