A look at Halloween movies playing on the big screen in Colorado

Love horror movies? Here's a look at some theaters around Colorado that are doing special screenings of Halloween favorites this October.

One of the best parts of the Halloween season is watching scary movies.

Luckily, movie theaters around the Denver metro area are getting into the spirit of the season by hosting spooky screenings all through October.

From classics like Halloween and The Shining to millennial favorites like Hocus Pocus and Beetlejuice, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Harkins Theatres is putting on special Halloween screenings each Tuesday this October. The best part? Tickets are just $5 per flick. Screenings start at 7 p.m. at Harkins’ Arvada 14 and Northfield 18 locations.

  • October 2 – Rocky Horror Picture Show
  • October 9 – Aliens
  • October 16 – Halloween (1978)
  • October 23 – The Shining
  • October 30 – A Nightmare on Elm Street

Alamo Drafthouse is getting in on the Halloween fun by hosting Cereal and Movie parties featuring creepy films with a side of all-you-can eat cereal.

  • October 6 – The Silence of the Lambs, Sloans Lake
  • October 8 – The Shining, Sloans Lake
  • October 9 - Mortal Combat, Sloans Lake
  • October 13 – American Psycho, Sloans Lake
  • October 14 - Evil Dead II, Littleton
  • October 16 – Practical Magic, Littleton
  • October 20 – Monster, Sloans Lake
  • October 20 – Beetlejuice, Littleton
  • October 30 – Little Ship of Horrors, Littleton
  • October 31 – Halloween (1978), Littleton and Sloans Lake locations
  • October 31 – The Fog, Sloans Lake

In addition to its monthly midnight screenings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Esquire Theatre is adding in a few other Halloween favorites to their Midnight Madness lineup, along with some weekday offerings.

  • October 3 – Repulsion
  • October 5 and 6– Beetlejuice
  • October 12 and 13– Halloween
  • October 24 – Mulholland Drive
  • October 26 and 27 – The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Sie FilmCenter on East Colfax is the place to go if you’re looking to take in some lesser-known Halloween flicks.

  • October 5 – Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
  • October 6 – The Changeling (1980)
  • October 12 – The Faculty (1998)
  • October 13 – The Vampire Doll (1970)
  • October 19 – Xtro (1982)
  • October 20 – Lake of Dracula (1971)
  • October 26 – Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
  • October 27 – Evil of Dracula (1974)
  • October 28 – A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985)

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hocus Pocus, a few AMC Theatres around Colorado are bringing the 1993 Disney favorite back to the big screen from October 26 through 31. Here’s a look at participating theaters:
