ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — Arapahoe County's largest regional park is getting an $18 million makeover.

Dove Valley Regional Park will double in size and get new amenities in a project that begins Wednesday, March 1.

Located across from the Denver Broncos' practice facility, the 52-acre park will develop an additional 40 acres, as well as get several upgrades, said Arapahoe County park officials.

Improvements for the 30-year-old park include upgraded athletic fields, a new roadway access and parking lot, walking trails, playgrounds, a new dog park, a shade pavilion with picnic shelters and a bike skills area.

The first phase of the project will last through spring 2024. Programming at the park's athletic fields will be suspended in spring and fall 2023.

While portions of the park will be closed during construction, impacts to traffic will be minimal and signage will guide visitors to accessible areas. Construction will take place weekdays, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Arapahoe County park officials estimate the park will reopen in spring 2024 with a future Phase 2 still up in the air.

“Our parks are the heart of our community,” said District 2 Commissioner Jessica Campbell-Swanson. “Upgrading the facilities and amenities in our parks will help more people spend time outdoors, stay active and build stronger relationships with their neighbors. By investing in our parks, we are investing in the future of our county and a healthy quality of life for our residents.”

Dove Valley Regional Park improvements are funded through the Arapahoe County Open Space Sales and Use Tax.
