KUSA – Some people’s hobbies are knitting, cooking or learning a musical instrument. I like to read social media posts from law enforcement agencies (usually it’s the Cheyenne Police Department).

A tweet on Friday afternoon by Fort Collins Police Services caught my eye. There’s a lot to unpack here. To begin with, it’s based on the 2009 song “Boom Boom Pow” by the iconic musical group known as the Black Eyed Peas.

To roughly quote the song that coined terms like “that future flow” and “them chickens jackin’ my style,” the FCPS tweet is so 3008 – while we’re all 2000 and late.

Now obviously, this is a message about not being an idiot with your Fourth of July fireworks. Is this something that needs to be said every year? You’d think no, but people are people, so here we are.

The “Boom Boom Pow” represents the sound of fireworks.

The dog named “Wagger” does not like fireworks, or its cringey name.

Nextdoor is the app people use to complain about their neighbors. 9NEWS also gets story ideas there, just a heads up.

And reporting fireworks is something you should do if people are igniting them illegally – especially given Colorado’s hot and dry conditions.
