Hops & Pie owners Drew and Leah Watson are opening a second concept within their craft-beer-focused pizza restaurant: Berkeley Donuts, which will serve New England-style potato donuts, a cult-favorite variety made with potatoes and traditional flour to make them more fluffy and tender. The donut shop is expected to debut sometime before the end of March. 

In addition to a variety of donut styles — cake, sourdough-raised, vegan and gluten-free, Berkeley Donuts will serve a house-made maple breakfast sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on a sourdough donut. It will begin service well before the pizzeria opens its doors each day and will offer flavors of donuts ranging from Mexican chocolate with hatch green chilis and dulce de leche to bourbon sourdough with Hops & Pie’s bread pudding sauce to Almond Joy.

“I went on a bachelor party to Portland, Maine in 2016 and visited local cult-favorite The Holy Donut. It was the best donut I ever had. I immediately returned to Denver and began creating batch after batch of these New England-style potato donuts,“ Drew Watson said in a news release. “I later found out my mom grew up adjacent to the original location of The Holy Donut, and I knew the concept was meant to be.”

Flower Child, the fast-casual restaurants that specializes in vegetarian and healthy-lifestyle food, has set Feb. 18 as the official opening date for its first Denver location, in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center. The Fox Restaurant Concepts chain currently has just one store in Colorado, in Boulder at 2580 Arapahoe Ave.
