BP division CEO talks about why Denver snagged HQ from Houston

A major U.S. division of BP plc is moving its headquarters from Houston to Denver — a move that the division's CEO compares to a homecoming in some ways.

A major U.S. division of BP plc is moving its headquarters from Houston to Denver — a move that the division's CEO compares to a homecoming in some ways.

For him, that is.

Lawler, who grew up in Lakewood, graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1986 before heading to the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. He graduated from Mines in 1990 with a bachelors of science degree in petroleum engineering.

David Lawler’s older brother, Robert — better known as Doug — was a few years ahead, graduating from Green Mountain in 1984 and from Mines in 1988. Doug Lawler is currently the CEO and President of Chesapeake Energy (NYSE: CHK), based in Oklahoma City.
