DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - RTD's new bus terminal outside Denver Union Station opens in a few days. Inside, the historic depot's transformation into a hotel and retail complex won't be unveiled until July 12.
That's when the Union Station Alliance (USA) will open the doors to The Crawford Hotel and most of the 12 new stores and restaurants in the building.
"This will be the new gateway to the American West," said Dana Crawford, a partner in the team that's been working for years on the project that bears her name.
Crawford spoke of the experience that visitors to Denver will have when they ride the Regional Transportation District's rail line, opening in 2016, from Denver International Airport to the station. "When travelers see this new great hall, it will be an amazing experience they'll never forget."
"People will be blown away at the sensitivity to history, yet modern design," said Ferd Belz, principal of REGen.
In December 2011, RTD picked plans for a 112-room luxury hotel supplemented by retail over the competing plan for retail and office space from the Union Station Neighborhood Co.
