Dick's Sporting Goods may toss out hunting gear in favor of baseball items at some stores

This follows Dick's (NYSE:DKS) decision in early 2018 to stop selling assault weapons and no longer sell guns to people under age 21 in response to the mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida, high school that claimed 17 lives.

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL — Dick’s Sporting Goods may replace hunting products with baseball-oriented items and licensed merchandise at more of its namesake stores after doing so at 10 during the third-quarter, USA Today reported.

“We are looking at a number of stores where the hunt business significantly under performs, and we will assess whether we want to take it out and replace it with these other categories if that ends up to be a smart thing to do from a business standpoint,’’ CEO Ed Stack said during the Coraopolis-based retailer’s earnings call, the article said.

Dick's also owns 35 Field & Stream stores across the country, including two in the Pittsburgh metro area. Field & Stream specializes in hunting and fishing gear.
