DENVER — The second coffee shop to open as part of Denver International Airport's (DIA) Great Hall Project celebrated its grand opening Thursday.
Kabod Coffee is owned by an Ethiopian woman, Muluye Hailemariam, who joined DIA's concessions community, kiosk program and the Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program in 2011.
“We are proud to welcome Kabod Coffee to the terminal and celebrate the success of one of our minority, women-owned businesses that have been able to grow at [DIA],” said DIA CEO Phil Washington.
Prior to opening this location, Hailemariam opened two eateries and Kabod Coffee on Concourse B before the terminal location’s opening.
“Coffee is culture in Ethiopia,” said Hailemariam. “I am honored to bring my heritage and the finest unblended organic coffee to the thousands of daily travelers through [DIA]. I am also excited to offer local milk and food options that support our greater Colorado community.”
Hailemariam said their coffee is single-source Ethiopian coffee, roasted locally at a plant far Northeast Denver. Alongside their coffee, they will sell Colorado baked goods and grab-and-go food.
Those baked goods are sourced from Share Good; a local, women-owned company focused on giving back to the community.
"This is a long-time dream, but this takes a long journey," Hailemariam said. "So, it’s not easy like overnight’s happen, but just like today especially in this world in life, you know, to make happen is just like thanks to God."
Visit Kabod Coffee's new location in the terminal on Level 6 near United Airlines’ ticketing area. Kabod Coffee is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"We hope that next time you are at [DIA], you will give this locally-owned business at [DIA] a try!." Washington said.
