Metro Denver's population is among the fastest-growing in the nation, ranking seventh among the nation's largest metros.

That's according to a new analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by Headlight Data, an Austin-based data information sevice for workforce development. Headlight Data looked at population growth in the 53 largest metros (those with 1 million people or more).

"The [Denver] region has enjoyed a strong economy in recent years, growing its job base 2.7 percent in 2015," said Chris Engle, chief analyst and president of Headlight Data.

With 2.9 million residents in 2015, metro Denver's population grew 2.1 percent, well above the national average of 0.8 percent growth. The population grew by 58,474 residents, from 2,755,856 in July 2014 to 2,814,330 in July of 2015.
