DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL — Thinking about buying a house, but not sure you can afford it?

A new study by ranks the 50 largest U.S. metro areas by how much salary you need to earn to afford the principal, interest tax and insurance payments on a median-priced home. Denver comes in at No. 8 — on the high end. (You can read about the methodology for the study here.), a website about all things mortgage-related, found that in Denver, the monthly mortgage payment would be a little more than $2,000 for a median-priced home. And that would require a salary of about $87,000.

The figures assume that you'd be putting down a 20 percent deposit.
