A leading company that makes marketing software technology is expanding its year-old downtown Denver office, making room to hire dozens and employ 500 people in a city its CEO describes as a world-class but unsung tech hub.

The Denver growth of San Mateo, California-based Marketo Inc. comes a year after the company tapped Steve Lucas, a longtime Denver resident, to be its CEO.

Lucas, who splits his time between the San Francisco Bay area and Denver, immediately started building up a local Marketo office. It has since ballooned to nearly 200 people covering nearly every kind of job across company.

“We originally started with the assumption we’d start here with general and administrative jobs. That changed,” Lucas said.
