DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL — United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz visited Denver to rededicate a flight crew training center center that the airline is investing more than $190 million into expanding in Denver, making it the largest pilot training center worldwide.

Munoz spoke of having won back the trust of United’s employees — 7,000 of whom are in Colorado — and is focusing now on improving fliers’ experience.

Denver International Airport, one of United’s three main U.S. hubs, is at the start of $3.5 billion in construction slated to be finished in 2021 revamping the terminal's “Great Hall” and adding of 39 departure gates to the three concourses.

Munoz said United Airlines is adding more customers and flights in Denver, and has brought on about 1,000 new employees in the past two years. He answered a few questions for the Denver Business Journal during his visit:

What would you like to see DIA do differently, do more of or stop doing? I think the Great Hall is a great project. It’s difficult at the initial stages because it’s costly and we have to bear the cost. We are concerned about the impact on our employees and our customers, you know, the "pardon our dust while we remodel" kind of thing. It’s impactful. We’d like to see a little more concessions near the gates so our customers can be nearby. The great concession stands they’re going to have may be perfect and right for everyone, but then you’ve got to hustle on to the trains to make to your gates. We worry about getting you on your flights on time. Other than that, it’s been a great partnership with Kim Day at the airport and the mayor. With regard to the community — it’s a growing tech center, and there are more customers. We’re really comfortable with Denver. There’s a lot places I would have a lot to say about, but at this particular time we have a great relationship with Denver.
