Amazon recalls power banks due to fire and burn hazards

Amazon has received 53 reports of the power banks overheating in the U.S.

AmazonBasics portable power bank charger packs are being recalled because of 53 reports in the United States of overheating including one report of chemical burns from battery acid.

There have also been four reports of property damage including fire and smoke damage, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall involves 260,000 power banks sold by Amazon.com, Amazon bookstores and Amazon pop-up stores nationwide between December 2014 and July 2017.

Six versions of AmazonBasics’ lithium-ion battery chargers are being recalled including 16,100 mAh, 10,000 mAh, 5,600 mAh, 2,000 mAh with micro USB cable, 3,000 mAh and 3,000 mAh with USB micro cable.

Consumers should unplug the chargers and contact Amazon for a full refund.
