Two men were killed when the motorized glider they were in crashed Wednesday afternoon
The San Miguel Sheriff's Office said one of the men killed is well-known Telluride local, "Glider Bob" Saunders.
The other man killed has not been identified, but officials said he is from Colorado.
Deputies said Saunders was piloting the fixed-wing glider when it crashed.
The glider crashed in Prospect Basin on the south end of the Telluride Ski area a little after 2 p.m.
San Miguel Sheriff Bill Masters said, “This is a terrible tragedy and an enormous loss for the families as well as the entire Telluride community. Telluride has lost another great one.”
According to a news release, “Glider Bob” was the owner and operator of “Glide Telluride.”
According to Saunders' website, he had flown Stemme Motorgliders since 1997.
